Oh dear, another day and another deeply embarrassing humiliation for American President Barack Obama.
In the past week he has faced sharp criticism for his decision to cancel the missile defence programme and his inability to decide on an effective strategy for resolving the conflict in Afghanistan.
Now he has demonstrated his impotence to make headway on the Israel-Palestinian track.
It’s now five months since Mr Obama sent expectations soaring with his much-lauded Cairo speech, in which he appealed for a new beginning in relations between Washington and the Muslim world, and gave the Israelis a gratuitous kicking over their illegal settlement building programme.
But if Mr Obama thought that by cosying up to the Arab world at the expense of the Israelis he would somehow break the impasse in the peace process, he was gravely mistaken.
As they are wont to do, the Israelis have simply responded to the Obama administration’s attempted bully-boy tactics by digging in their heels and doggedly constructing more settlements.
For their part, the Arabs have responded to Mr Obama’s offer of a new start by maintaining a resounding silence, even refusing to grant Israel’s request to ease overflight restrictions for its civilian aircraft.

Bueno, una cosa es ser senador, y otra muy diferente ser presidente.
